NORMAL, Ill. -
Freshman Gabby Phillips will be looking to increase her season wins as the Illinois State women's tennis team travels to Champaign, Ill., Wednesday, to face Illinois at the Atkins Tennis Center.
Phillips has accumulated a team-high singles record of 12 wins this season with an overall singles record of 12-10.
Illinois State has not seen a win against the Fighting Illini since its 6-3 victory in 1981 and Wednesday's match will be the first time the two schools have met since February 8, 2009, where the Redbirds were shut out, 7-0.
Head coach Chris Hoover thinks his team needs to concentrate on more than just winning.
"We always look forward to playing Illinois," said Hoover. "They are a tough team so we need to concentrate on just competing. We shouldn't be thinking about winning or losing, we need to think about the sets, winning those sets and having consistent competitive play."
Action is set to begin at 3:30 p.m. CDT.
