NORMAL, Ill. -
Illinois State head men's tennis coach Cris James announced the signing of Jacob Wilson, a product of Oak Park-River Forest High School.
Wilson, who has been tabbed as a four-star recruit by TennisRecruiting.net, just competed in the 2011 Illinois High School Association (IHSA) State Championship this past weekend. For the second-straight year, Wilson led Oak Park-River Forest High School to a third-place finish.
Individually, Wilson advanced to the fourth round in singles at the IHSA event, before falling in three sets to the eventual state runner-up.
"I'm excited about Jacob joining our program," James said. "He is a late bloomer and has really been under the radar, since he has not traveled extensively. He is a scrappy player who makes a lot of balls and his results have continued to improve year after year."
Wilson is ranked No. 6 in the state of Illinois by TennisRecruiting.net, and No. 21 in the Great Lakes region. In 2010, Wilson teamed with Alex Gebert for the Huskies and placed fifth in doubles at the IHSA State Championship.
