Normal, Ill. -
Illinois State Associate Athletics Director for Athletics Communications Todd Kober announced the addition to D.J. Haurin (HARR-in) to the staff Tuesday, as a graduate assistant.
With Redbird Athletics, Haurin will work as the primary media contact for the Illinois State cross country and track and field teams, while also serving as a lead designer in the athletics communications office. Haurin will also assist with home events for other Redbird athletic programs.
"We are thrilled to have D.J. join our staff," Kober said. "He brings a strong background in design, and has a proven track record of his work ethic and dedication. D.J. is joining the athletics communications staff during a progressive time as we introduce Illinois State fans and alumni to the Redbird magazine, and he will play in a prominent role in the success of this new approach."
Haurin earned his bachelor's degree in communication from Mercyhurst College in May, where he spent the last four years working in the athletics communication department; three years as a student assistant (2008-10) and this past year as an intern (2010-11).
At Mercyhurst, he helped to promote and publicize all 24 NCAA varsity sports, serving as the primary media contact for women's basketball. Haurin also assisted with football, men's and women's soccer, men's basketball, men's and women's ice hockey and baseball.
In addition to his work in the athletic department, Haurin is also an avid endurance athlete, competing in a variety of races including marathons and triathlons. He plans to finish his first Ironman on August 28, 2011, where competitors have 17 hours to cover the 2.4-mile swim, 112-mile bike and 26.2-mile run all in succession.
The Youngstown, Ohio native anticipates a masters of science in sport management from Illinois State University in May 2013.
