Nelson Named Easton All-American

June 8, 2011

NORMAL, Ill. - Illinois State senior second baseman Kara Nelson added another honor to her decorated career, after she was named a 2011 Easton Second Team All-American Wednesday afternoon, as announced by Easton Sports, Inc. Nelson is now a two-time Easton All-American, after earning first-team accolades in 2007.

The Moline, Ill., native was named the Missouri Valley Conference Player of the Year and earned National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) All-Mideast Second Team recognition in 2011, after leading the Redbirds with a .417 average, 41 runs scored, 80 hits and a .462 on-base percentage.

Nelson helped lead ISU to its first MVC regular-season title since 2006 and first NCAA Tournament win since 2007. She finished her career at Illinois State with career records for hits (301), doubles (49), runs scored (189), games started (223), total bases (435), at bats (750) and batting average (.401). Nelson was also the first-ever Redbird softball player taken in a professional draft, when she was selected by the Chicago Bandits in the fifth round of the National Pro Fastpitch rookie draft in February.
