NORMAL, Ill. -
Illinois State head coach Tim Jankovich announced that John Jones, a 6-foot-9, 260-pound forward, from Barbados will start attending classes Monday at Illinois State University and will suit up for the Redbird basketball team, including during the team's trip to Canada in August.
Jones, who attended The Howe School in Howe, Ind., last year, averaged 12.5 points and 11 rebounds per game. Howe posted a 16-6 record last season and earned its first sectional win since 1960, before falling in the sectional final. At Howe, Jones also qualified for the state track and field championship meet in both the shot put and the discus.
Prior to attending Howe, Jones was a product of the Garrison Secondary School in St. Michael, Barbados. As the top player for the Garrison School basketball team, Jones has also represented Barbados at the Under-19 level.
In addition, Jones has represented Barbados on three occasions at the Caribbean Free Trade Association (CARIFTA) Games, winning bronze and silver medals in the javelin, shot put and the discus.
