Summer Baseball Update: Kay Extends Streak in Thunder Bay

NORMAL, Ill. - Illinois State junior Brett Kay is on a season-best six-game hitting streak for the Thunder Bay Border Cats summer wood bat league team in Thunder Bay, Ontario, Canada. The Redbird shortstop went 1-for-5 Tuesday night versus Mankato to keep the streak alive. He is now hitting .184 with eight RBI, while ISU and Thunder Bay teammate David Fallon is batting .197 with 12 RBI in the Northwoods League.

Senior closer Kenny Long improved his summer statistics with one scoreless, hitless inning July 7, for the Orleans Firebirds versus Harwich. Long now holds a 2.84 ERA with 17 strikeouts in the Cape Cod League. Bryan Huff continues to increase his offensive numbers for the Lexington Snipes in the Chicago Suburban Baseball League. The Redbird senior went 2-for-3 with a double and a walk, plus one RBI and one run scored July 10 versus Westmont.

After being signed by the Normal CornBelters independent Frontier League baseball team July 5, former Illinois State outfielder Tyler McNeely made his professional debut July 7 versus Windy City, going 0-for-3 with a walk and one run scored. McNeely collected his first pro hit July 9, going 1-for-3 versus Joliet. His former college teammate Ryan Court increased his batting average to .253 for the Missoula Osprey, going 2-for-3 with three runs scored July 10, at Billings. Meanwhile, Ryan Copeland is scheduled to make his third start of the season Wednesday night for the Quad Cities River Bandits, after pitching seven scoreless innings with five strikeouts July 6 at Burlington.
