Summer Baseball Update: Dubler Homers in Advanced-A Debut

NORMAL, Ill. - Former Illinois State catcher Kevin Dubler hit a solo home run and drove in another run with a sacrifice fly in his Winston-Salem Dash debut Wednesday afternoon at Kinston, N.C. Dubler was promoted to advanced-A Winston-Salem July 18, after amassing a .266 batting average this season with the low-A Kannapolis Intimidators. The Downers Grove, Ill., native went 1-for-3 with two runs in his first game with the Chicago White Sox advanced Carolina League affiliate.

Former Redbird pitchers Ryan Copeland and Corey Maines each earned their first victories of the season. Copeland secured his first win for the Quad Cities River Bandits, throwing seven innings, allowing two runs and striking out nine July 13, versus Dayton. He is scheduled to start again Wednesday night. Maines notched his first professional victory for the Gulf Coast League Yankees, pitching 1.1 shutout innings of relief with one strikeout July 19, at Philadelphia.

Fellow rookie Ryan Court is now batting .288 for the Missoula Osprey, where he went 5-for-5 with a home run, a double, three RBI and one run scored July 15, at Casper. Among current Redbirds playing in summer wood bat leagues, Brett Kay went 2-for-4 with a triple, one RBI and one run scored July 15 for the Thunder Bay Border Cats of the Northwoods League. In the Cape Cod League, Kenny Long pitched two hitless, scoreless innings with two strikeouts, July 14, for the Orleans Firebirds versus Chatham.
