NORMAL, Ill. -
Illinois State golfer Wils Hawn was named recipient of the 2011-12 James and Carole Mounier Endowed Scholarship, as announced by head men's golf coach Ray Kralis Friday.
The Mounier Endowed Scholarship was established in 2007 by James and Carole Mounier. Jim and Carole are proud Illinois State graduates, who were active in Greek life-Sigma Nu and Delta Zeta. They both enjoy golf and believe the sport builds character and life success. The scholarship is awarded annually to a golf student-athlete.
"Wils is a very dynamic and exciting player, and there is no quit in him," Kralis said. "With such a strong passion for the game and a drive to improve himself and our program, he possesses the characteristics that qualify him for this endowment. He started having a positive impact on this team the moment he arrived on campus, and the sky is the limit, when considering what he will accomplish during his time as a Redbird."
Hawn competed in 28 rounds during the 2010-11 season and had a season stroke average of 76.5. The sophomore tied for sixth place at the Cardinal Intercollegiate, after recording a 2-under-par 214 (70-72-72), which was a personal-best. Hawn finished the 2011 State Farm Missouri Valley Conference Men's Golf Championship in a tie for 28th place, after completing the three-round competition with a score of 239 (79-85-75) and helped the team finish second at the championships.
