NORMAL, Ill. - Illinois State's women's golf coach Darby Sligh announced that senior Hannah Bachman is the Helen Cushman Endowed Scholarship recipient for the 2011-12 school year. The scholarship is awarded to a women's golf team member who has shown excellence through academics, golf expertise and dedication to the game.
"To get the scholarship is really an honor, especially looking at the people before me who have received the award," Bachman said. "We have been successful over the past few years, and I hope we can continue to do well. I am eager to start my senior year at ISU."
During the 2010-11 season, Bachman competed in 31 rounds for the Redbirds and held a stroke average of 80.0. She recorded a low single-round score of 73 twice during the season, with the first coming at the ISU Invitational and again at the Barefoot at the Beach Invitational, where she recorded a three-round score of 228 (73-79-76). The Springfield, Ill., native finished 11th at the State Farm Missouri Valley Conference Golf Championship with a two-round score of 154 (78-76). Going into the 2011-12 season, Bachman will lead the squad as the only senior.
"I'm so proud of Hannah and what she's been able to accomplish in three years," Sligh said. "She has grown into both a leader and a champion. Her work ethic and love of the game is second to none, and I could not think of a more deserving recipient of this scholarship."
The Cushman Endowed Scholarship is one of 23 endowed scholarships available to Illinois State student-athletes that are funded by private donors.
