Illinois State Claims First Win North of the Border

Aug. 11, 2011

MONTREAL, Canada - Juniors Jackie Carmichael and Tyler Brown combined to score 34 points, while John Wilkins tossed in 10 points and grabbed nine rebounds, as Illinois State earned its first victory on the four-game trip with a 94-52 win over Université du Québec à Montréal (UQAM) Thursday night at the Sports Centre.

"We are definitely improving," head coach Tim Jankovich said. "The guys showed a lot of toughness playing their third game in three nights. They have also been on the go all day long since we have arrived."

Carmichael paced the Redbirds with 18 points, while Brown finished with 16. Illinois State led 45-27 at the half.

The wear and tear of playing three games in successive nights is taking its toll, as freshman Nic Moore hurt an ankle early in the game and won't be available to play in Friday night's contest.

Additional game statistics were not available.

Illinois State will close out the international tour with its fourth and final game Friday night in Montreal, as the Redbirds will face McGill at 6 p.m. CT, at the Love Competition Hall.
