Justin Recktenwald, a native of Louisville, Ky., has joined the Illinois State Athletics staff as the director of development and sales, after serving as the assistant director of development for the Cardinal Athletic Fund at Louisville.
"I am extremely excited to become a part of the Redbird family," Recktenwald said. "I'm looking forward to not only working with, but advancing, the Illinois State external outreach."
Recktenwald worked three years at Louisville with the last one and half years on the development side. Prior to that, he was actively involved with the staff on the ticket sales and marketing initiatives. With Louisville, he participated in the advancement of the Cardinal Athletic Fund by 2,000 members over the past year, while individually raising $5 million through donations, the selling of suites, premium seats and season tickets over the past two years. In addition, Recktenwald took part in expanding season football ticket sales by 10,000 seats.
"We're thrilled to have Justin onboard and eager for him to begin his new role," ISU Assistant Athletics Director for Marketing and Promotions Brad Ledford said. "His experience and enthusiasm will play an important role in accomplishing the external goals of our department."
At Illinois State, Recktenwald will service a hybrid role, working both in development and in sales. He will oversee the department' s newly launched group ticket sales staff, while also being active in the cultivation and management of Weisbecker Scholarship Fund (WSF) members.
Recktenwald earned his bachelor's degree in finance from Louisville in 2005, before completing his master's degree in business from Bellarmine in 2008.
