Summer Baseball Update: Summer Leaguers Come Home

NORMAL, Ill. - With Illinois State's fall semester beginning next week, Redbird baseball players who participated in summer wood bat leagues are heading back to ISU's campus. Northwoods League participants David Fallon, Brett Kay and Matt Mirabal were the last of the summer leaguers to finish, with the season ending Aug. 14. Fallon and Kay wrapped up their summer with the Thunder Bay Border Cats, while Mirabal finished with the Madison Mallards.

Fallon ended the summer with one of his most potent offensive outings, going 4-for-5 with two doubles, one home run, four RBI and four runs scored in the Border Cats' season finale, Aug. 14, at Mankato. Fallon amassed a .219 batting average, while Kay hit .223 and finished his summer career going 2-for-5 with one run scored Aug. 13, at Mankato. Mirabal, who hit .189 for the Mallards, went 2-for-4 with a home run, four RBI and two runs scored versus Wisconsin, Aug. 12, in his final summer game.

Among former Redbirds playing professional baseball, Kevin Dubler is on an eight-game hitting streak and has collected a hit in every game since being promoted to Class A Advanced Winston-Salem. Jeremy Accardo continues to represent ISU in Triple-A Norfolk, where he has lowered his ERA to 2.55. Ryan Court is now hitting .262 after going 1-for-4 with one RBI and one run scored Aug. 16, versus Orem. Meanwhile, former Redbird teammates Gabe DeMarco and Tyler McNeely played against each other last weekend, with the Normal CornBelters hosting the Rockford RiverHawks. DeMarco did not get a hit in the series, while McNeely was 1-for-3 with one run scored, Aug. 14.
