The initial installment of Redbird Magazine, a 96-page, full-color publication centered on Illinois State Athletics, is now on sale at all upcoming home Redbird events.
The August issue, which is the first of 10 publications to be created this academic year, features ISU Director of Athletics Gary Friedman on the cover. In addition, there is an exclusive feature about Friedman written by Pantagraph columnist Randy Kindred in the magazine.
The magazine, which will sell for $5 at Illinois State events, is produced by the Illinois State Athletics Communications staff and will replace the traditional game day programs.
"We really hope that this publication will excite our passionate fans," ISU Associate Athletics Director for Athletics Communications Todd Kober said. "The magazine itself is really a melting pot of ideas. Our hope is to showcase Redbird student-athletes and their interesting storylines, and strengthen our connection with members of the Weisbecker Scholarship Fund (WSF), while supplementing the loss of the printed media guide. This publication really has a multi-faceted purpose that we hope everyone will enjoy."
Patrons buying Redbird Magazine at home ISU events will also be given a four-panel flipcard designed exclusively for that particular event with rosters, scorecards, etc. If fans already have a copy of the latest Redbird Magazine and just want the flipcard, those are available for $1 apiece.
In addition to the Friedman story, the August issue also has feature articles about freshmen football players leaving home, soccer student-athlete Mara Kremonovic, community service outreach, Redbird volleyball teammates, upcoming events and historical recaps. The magazine also includes biographies of coaches and student-athletes from football, volleyball and soccer.
WSF members who contribute annual financial gifts of $2,500 and above will receive Redbird Magazine each month as part of their donor level benefits. WSF members at the Coach and Player levels will receive a complimentary magazine four times (August, November, February and May), while Varsity and Captain level donors will receive the magazine in both August and December.
