The Illinois State volleyball team will host its 2011 home-opener against Southern Illinois Edwardsvile Tuesday on Doug Collins Court in Redbird Arena at 7:05 p.m. The Redbirds are coming off a 1-2 finish at the Wolverine Invitation in Orem, Utah.
The Redbirds locked down their first win against Cal State Bakersfield in a three game sweep (25-13, 25-20, 25-17) Saturday (Aug. 27). Shannon McGlaughlin was named to the Wolverine Invitational All-Tournament team after compiling 40 kills over three matches and recording a .500 hitting percentage on 14 swings with no errors.
This will be the third meeting between the two teams, with Illinois State leading the series 3-0. SIUE finished its opening weekend 2-2 after defeating Arkansas-Pine Bluff and Western Illinois, but fell to Wofford and Kent State. The Cougars return four starters and welcome three newcomers after finishing with a 14-15 overall record in 2010.
Heading into their first home match, the Redbirds are looking to improve from the service line and maintain a consistent side-out percentage throughout the entire match.
