LARAMIE, Wyo.-The Illinois State volleyball team captured its first win of the UniWyo Cowgirl Classic. The Redbirds defeated Georgia State in 4 sets (25-19, 25-20, 22-25, 25-20).

Illinois State was led by sophomore Shannon McLaughlin who recorded a double-double with 16 kills and 12 digs. McGlaughlin led all players in kills and points (18.5). Freshman Emily Schneider compiled 10 kills and three blocks for a .471 hitting percentage. Senior Kristin Stauter added to the Redbird's offensive tallying 43 assists and seven kills with no errors.

"I couldn't have asked for a better tournament for us this weekend as we head into Missouri Valley Conference play," said head coach Melissa Myers. "It's not going to be easy and we can't think that it will be."

Georgia State extended the match after capturing the third set. Panther's Vineece Verdun led the team with 14 kills and 16.0 points. Muki Kangwa recorded the only GSU double-double with 13 kills and 10 digs.

The Redbirds outhit GSU by 10 kills and a .232 hitting percentage compared to the Panther's .129. ISU recorded 8.0 total team blocks and had seven players who posted five or more kills throughout the match.

Illinois State is scheduled to host non-conference opponent Loyola (Chicago), Tuesday in Redbird Arena at 7:05 p.m. (CST).
