NORMAL, Ill. - On the back of junior Katie Jean's 2-under-par (70), the Illinois State women's golf team was able to overcome an 8 stroke team deficit to win its second-straight Redbird Invitational at Weibring Golf Club Sunday in Normal, Ill. The Redbirds shot a final- round 295 the overall-lowest team round of the tournament and took the overall lead with a three-round score of 917.

"I am completely speechless with today's finish," head coach Darby Sligh said. "This morning, in our huddle, I told the girls that despite winning or losing this was their course, their day, and to leave everything they had out there. I am proud of the way they fought and finished. Katie, Brianna and Jordyn gave us the push we needed. With a start like this one, this is going to be an exciting year."

Jean's total of 224 (78-76-70) was good enough to finish tied for fourth. Sophomore Brianna Cooper finished the final round with an even-par (72) for a three-round total of 225 (74-79-72), which put her in a tie for sixth. Sophomore Jordyn Wyzgowski shot a 2-over-par 74, her best score of the weekend, and an overall 233 (77-82-74) to finish in a tie for 16th place. Sophomore Rachel Powers fired a seven-over-par 79 to give her a weekend total of 235 (76-80-79) and a tie for 19th, while sophomore Carlee Cossell shot a third-round 80 and a three-round total of 242 (80-82-80) to finish in a tie for the 41st.

Competing as an individual, senior Hannah Bachman shot a seven-over-par 79 for a three-round score of 240 (81-80-79), improving each of her weekend scores by a stroke each round and tied for 35th. Freshman Hayley Guyton also fired a 7-over-par 79 and finished with an overall score of 241 (79-83-79) and tied for 38th, as sophomore Kaitlin Reid finished Sunday's round with a 13-over-par 85 for a three-round total of 247 (82-80-85) to place her in a tie for 61st.

Bowling Green State's Bailey Arnold won the individual title, overcoming Toledo's Piyathida Chayapan in a sudden death playoff of the 18th hole by recording a birdie. Finishing in third place for the weekend was Ball State's Jenna Hague.

As a team Southern Illinois finished in second place, while Ball State finished third.

The Redbirds will have a two week break before heading to Madison, Wis., for the Badger Invitational at University Ridge Golf Course.
