Redbird Round-up Preview with Chris Hoover
NORMAL, Ill. -
Senior Aniko Kiss will lead the Illinois State women's tennis team, as it hosts the Redbird Round-up Tournament, Friday through Sunday, at the Gregory Street Tennis Courts.
Tournament play begins at 1 p.m., Friday afternoon, and at 10 a.m., Saturday and Sunday. Competing teams include Butler, Chicago State and Morehead State.
Head coach Chris Hoover is looking to build on the team's previous performance.
"The team is excited to host the tournament this weekend," Hoover said. "Aniko went undefeated in the last tournament, so I am hoping she will continue that. It should be a lot of fun for everyone."
The Redbirds opened the season at the Grand Prairie Hotels Invitational (September 9-11), where Kiss, along with partner sophomore Phyllis Tigges, went undefeated in doubles, as well as singles, giving her an undefeated record so far for the 2011. Junior Stefanie Youngberg also went undefeated in singles play and lost only one doubles match throughout the weekend.
In 2009, the last time that the tournament was hosted in Normal, Ill., the Redbirds won four finals matches, including both Kiss and Youngberg. This year will mark the second time that ISU has hosted the Roundup since 2002.
Live stats for the tournament will be available on GoRedbirds.com and will be updated throughout the weekend.
