Women's Golf Set to Compete at Badger Invitational

Sept. 23, 2011

NORMAL, Ill. - The Illinois State women's golf team will head north to compete in its first road competition Sunday-Monday, Sept. 24-25, at the Badger Invitational in Madison, Wis. In the 54-hole invitational, two rounds (36 holes) will be played Sunday with the final round (18 holes) being played Monday. Action will begin at the University Ridge Golf Course Sunday with a shotgun start at 8:30 a.m., while Monday's shotgun start will begin at 8 a.m.

"We are excited to get on the road to Wisconsin," head coach Darby Sligh said. "In the past, this course has served as a true test, and we are looking forward to attacking it this weekend. After coming off a strong final round performance two weeks ago, we need to try and feed off of that momentum. I'm looking for this group to step up and continue to lead this fall."

Illinois State will compete against Bucknell, Delaware, Georgetown, Illinois Chicago, North Dakota State, Southern Methodist and Wisconsin. ISU will also face Missouri Valley Conference foe Drake, which also competed in the Redbird Invitational. Wisconsin looks to continue its winning streak, as the Badgers have won the tournament the past two years.

Competing for the Redbirds will be senior Hannah Bachman, junior Katie Jean and sophomores Brianna Cooper, Rachel Powers, Jordan Wyzgowski and Carlee Cossell, who will compete as an individual.

Jean and Cooper look to continue their success, after strong performances at the season-opening Redbird Invitational (Sept. 10-11). Jean finished tied for fourth with a score of 224 (78-76-70), while Cooper completed the tournament in a tie for sixth with a 225 (74-79-72).

Powers tied for 19th place at the Redbird Invite (235), while Wyzgowski finished in tie for 16th with a score of 233 (77-82-74). Cossell finished in 41st place with a 54-hole score of 242 (80-82-80). Bachman, who competed as an individual at the season opener, tied for 35th with a tally of 240 (81-80-79).
