Span, Pelaez and Manner Represent Illinois State at ITA All-American Tournament

Sept. 29, 2011

TULSA, Okla. - The Illinois State men's tennis team will be represented by Skip Span, Alexander Pelaez and Tuomas Manner Saturday at the ITA All-American Tournament in Tulsa, Okla. The Redbirds will be competing against players from some of the top teams in the country.

Head Coach Cris James is optimistic about how his players will do in the upcoming event.

"I was pretty happy with how things ended up this past weekend so I am confident that we are on the right track," James said. "The competition is very tough as you progress through stages of the tournament so I hope we just go out there, play our best and do well."

James expects his players to view the ITA All-American Tournament as an opportunity.

"My expectations are that they continue to improve from participating in opportunities like this tournament," said James. "In terms of results, Alex did fairly well in this tournament last year so hopefully he can do so again. Skip and Tuomas have both competed against plenty of high level guys so I'm sure they will have a chance to pick up some wins as well."

Play is set to begin at 9 a.m. on Saturday.
