Illinois State volleyball finished with an undefeated record at the Skyhawk Invitational after defeating host, Tennessee-Martin (25-17, 26-24, 25-19). The Redbirds came into the invitational as the only team with one loss, but left as the sole team with three wins.
Illinois State was led by sophomores Shannon McGlaughlin, who notched 13 kills and LeighAnn Hranka who added 11. The Redbirds finished a tight second set with a breakout performance from sophomore Kelsey Holman who contributed two consecutive kills and two blocks.
"It was great to finally get a 3-0 win," head coach Melissa Myers said. "It was nice to see the team be able to put some aspects we've been working on into practice as well as maintain a high level of play for an extended period of time."
The Redbirds captured 10 total blocks and compiled a team hitting percentage of .243. McGlaughlin was named Skyhawk Invitational MVP after tallying 54 kills and 33 digs on the weekend. Senior Kristin Stauter and sophomores Angela Rego and Brooklyn Hlafka earned all-tournament honors.
Illinois State will host a non-conference match up against Western Illinois Wednesday on Doug Collins Court in Redbird Arena at 7:05 p.m.
