Redbirds Duel Ball State Saturday

Jan. 13, 2012

NORMAL, Ill. - The Illinois State swimming and diving team will compete at home in Horton Pool this Saturday, Jan. 14, at 1 p.m., for its first dual meet since November. The Redbirds are coming off their seven-day winter trip in San Juan, Puerto Rico.

"I am looking forward to seeing how they compete after their intense training in Puerto Rico," head coach Steve Paska said. "It has been a while since we have competed in a dual meet setting, and we're excited to swim against a solid Ball State team."

The meet also marks the first dual meet of the spring semester. The Redbird team holds a 2-1 record in dual meets for the 2011-12 season, with Ball State at 5-0.

"Ball State is having a fantastic year," Paska said. "Head coach Laura Seibold-Caudill always has her team prepared to race, which will make for an exciting meet."

The competition will also feature the one-meter and three-meter diving boards. Head diving coach Phil Hoffmann knows Ball State is a great opponent at this point in the season.

"Ball State has a strong diving team every year, top to bottom," Hoffmann said. "It is great to get to compete against them in the back end of our season. We have come a long way this year, and we are also excited to compete with a few new dives we have not yet used in a meet setting."

The Redbirds have three dual meets in their path to the Missouri Valley Conference Championships in February. A live stream of Saturday's event can be found at GoRedbirds.com through Redbird All-Access.
