NORMAL, Ill -
The Illinois State men's tennis team will begin their spring season Sunday against Notre Dame and Toledo at the Eck Tennis Pavilion in Notre Dame, Ind. The `Birds will take on Notre Dame at 8 a.m. and will compete against Toledo at 1 p.m.
Head Coach Cris James set goals for his team to strive for in the new season.
"We are going to try to improve our doubles a little bit," said James. "Overall, we still have to figure out what our combinations will be and see who will collaborate well together."
In addition to improving their doubles play, the `Birds hope to be more consistent in their performance.
"There was definitely some good stuff in the fall but we had some poor results, too," said James. "Our focus right now is just to continue to get better. We have a talented group of guys and everyone on our team is capable of getting the job done. We just have to rise to the occasion more consistently."
James is excited about sophomore Jordan Badenko's recent eligibility.
"We have to figure out where we can work Jordan in," said James. "I'm looking forward to watching him, as well as the freshmen, continue to evolve as players. One of my goals, personally, is to not put a lot of pressure or thought into strictly results; it's more about how we make progress every week."
