NORMAL, Ill. – As a 15-year assistant coach under Kay Yow at North Carolina State, Illinois State women’s basketball head coach Stephanie Glance is personally aware of the fight against breast cancer. Yow lost her courageous battle on Jan. 24, 2009, but Glance and Illinois State Athletics will continue the fight with a “Play 4Kay” PINK game sponsored by Country Financial, to support the Kay Yow Cancer Fund on Feb. 12, when the Redbirds host Bradley at 2:05 p.m.
The purpose of the event surrounding the game will be to raise awareness for breast cancer and other women’s health issues. ISU’s women’s basketball team will be wearing pink jerseys and shoes for the game. All fans are encouraged to wear pink to show their support of breast cancer awareness.
An invitation will also be extended to all cancer survivors to participate in on-court halftime recognition. Survivors interested in participating can print off this form to RSVP for the halftime recognition. Those who pre-resister will receive a confirmation in the mail, including two free tickets to the game and an invitation to the post-game reception with Coach Glance in the Redbird Room.
“The ‘Play 4Kay’ event is something near and dear to my heart and we had such a great turnout for our PINK game last year that we want to encourage people to come out to support the cause, to support cancer survivors all over the country and certainly in our local area,” said Glance. “We just want to make it a day that people can enjoy being out and being in an environment that’s about them. It’s not about our team; it’s about our team doing something for others.”
To coincide with the event, admission to the game will be $1, along with $1 hot dogs and pink lemonade. Pink Nike T-shirts will be sold for $20 each with all proceeds benefiting the Kay Yow Cancer Fund. The same halftime pre-registration form can also be used for T-shirt orders.
