Tazzioli Earns MVC Diver of the Week for the 4th Time

Jan. 24, 2012

NORMAL, Ill. - Senior diver Brittany Tazzioli was named Missouri Valley Conference Diver of the Week Tuesday, for the fourth time this season. Tazzioli's award comes after a weekend of two successful performances against Illinois-Chicago, as well as breaking a 12-year-old school record on the 1-meter board.

Tazzioli competed in a double dual meet against UIC and Valparaiso, finishing first on the 1-meter board (246.08) and third on the 3-meter board (259.35). Her performance helped her swimming and diving team seize a 123-119 victory over UIC.

The team captain then went on to break the school record on the 1-meter diving board Saturday at the UIC Diving Invite, with a score of 286.65 to place second. The score marks a personal best for the senior, as well as an NCAA zone regional qualifying score, which she has hit three times this season. Tazzioli also had a personal best performance on the 3-meter board, scoring a 263.55 to place fourth.

"She has worked very hard, and this is a well-deserved honor for her," head diving coach Phil Hoffmann said. "Breaking a 12-year-old school record is quite an accomplishment, and I know it was a goal of Brittany's from the beginning of the season. She showed a lot of talent against high-level divers, and it is good to see her performing at this level at this point in the season."

Tazzioli will compete in her last home meet in Horton Pool Saturday for the Redbirds' Senior Night. The competition is set to begin at 5:30 p.m. Already qualified, Tazzioli will finish off her career as a Redbird at the NCAA Diving Regionals in Bloominton, Ind., in March.
