NORMAL, Ill. - Illinois State volleyball, in conjunction with the athletic department, wants to “Block Out Hunger” when it hosts Southern Illinois Friday, November 16, at 7:05 p.m., by encouraging its fans to bring canned food items to the match for Bloomington-Normal’s Clare House annual food drive.
All fans that bring at least one canned food item will be rewarded with a women’s basketball ticket redemption voucher for the non-conference game on Dec. 5 at 7:05 p.m., against Michigan. Last year’s Clare House annual food drive donations amounted to five semi-truck loads of food, but barely allowed for the food pantry remain open for the entire year.
“The food line has grown tremendously over the past year,” explained Clare House Founder and Director Tina Sipula. “The line stretches down Washington Street to the corner, including approximately 100 families waiting for a bag of food on any given Wednesday or Friday.”
The collection goal for this year’s annual drive is six semi-truck loads of food, so Clare House will be able to keep their doors open throughout the entire year.
Admission remains free to all Reggie’s Kids Club members. Reggie’s Fun Zone will open at 6 p.m., where members will have access to coloring sheets, Reggie tattoos and a football toss. Members are also invited to join the high-five tunnel, where the ISU volleyball team will enter the court.
