OMAHA, Neb. - Illinois State ran into a hot shooting Creighton team, as the No. 12 ranked Bluejays sank each of its first eight field goals and never looked back in a 102-74 Missouri Valley Conference win at the CenturyLink Center Omaha Wednesday night.

With the loss, Illinois State falls to 14-9 overall and 6-6 in the Missouri Valley Conference. Creighton improves to 21-2 and 11-1, respectively. The Redbirds have now dropped 23-straight games against nationally-ranked opponents.

With the fast start, Creighton jumped out to a 17-2 lead with 14:42 left in the half. The Bluejays cooled off slightly by shooting 9-for-19 from the field for the remainder of the half, but Illinois State was never able to cut the lead to fewer than 13 points. National player of the year candidate Doug McDermott fired in 17 first-half points to pace Creighton to a 51-30 halftime lead, ISU's largest halftime deficit of the season.

The Redbirds put together a second-half rally to cut the Creighton lead to 14 points, 61-47, but once again the Bluejays responded with an 11-0 run to take a 74-49 lead. Creighton led by as many as 29 points in the second half.

Illinois State was led in scoring by Tyler Brown, who finished with 21 points. Bryant Allen tossed in 17 points for the Redbirds and Jon Ekey and Nic Moore each finished with 11. McDermott paced Creighton with a game-high 25 points to lead six Bluejays in double figures.

The Creighton points were the most surrendered by Illinois State since Dec. 28, 1990, when Oklahoma defeated the Redbirds 112-69.

Illinois State will be back in action Saturday night when the Redbirds host Interstate-74 rival Bradley for a 7:05 p.m. contest on Doug Collins Court at Redbird Arena. Tickets for this rivalry matchup are still available.
