NORMAL, Ill.-The Illinois State gymnastics team will look to defeat another conference foe when it takes on Midwest Independent Conference rival Southeast Missouri State Friday, February 24 at 6:30pm, in SEMO's Parker Gymnasium.
Head Coach Bob Conkling is feels confident about taking on SEMO this week.
"Our confidence level is very high after last week but you can never take a team like SEMO lightly, especially since the competition is at their home venue," said Conkling. "However, each week we continue to strive for improvement. I feel the team is getting very confident in their abilities and it is now showing up in competition."
The Redbirds fell to No. 34 Western Michigan last week, despite season high team and individual scores. Western Michigan ended the meet with a team score of 195.125, closely followed by Illinois State, who ended the meet with a team score of 194.775.
Junior Kim Genereux led the Redbirds with an individual all-around score of 39.100. Genereux placed first on floor, with a career high score of 9.800. Freshman Samantha King placed first on the balance beam, with a career high score of 9.850. The Redbirds defeated the Broncos in uneven-bars, with a team score of 48.850, led by senior Robin Weissman who took first place, with a career high score of 9.825.
"We have been focusing on the same tactics for the past few weeks during workouts," said Conkling. "We have been focusing on eliminating deductions and working towards hitting every routine without mistakes."
