NORMAL, Ill. -
The Illinois State women's golf team will compete against in-state rival Illinois Saturday in the annual Illinois Challenge hosted by the Royal Palm Yacht & Country Club in Boca Raton, Fla.
This year marks the fourth meeting of the head-to-head matchup between the two schools with the first event taking place in the spring of 2009. This year's event will mark the opening of the spring season for both teams.
Play will begin tomorrow at 7 a.m. with the dual meet competition on the Jack Nicklaus signature course featuring four-ball matches in the morning, followed by individual competition in the afternoon for a total of 36 holes for each golfer on the 6,146 yard course.
Coach Darby Sligh is excited for how her team competes against the Fighting Illini.
This is such a great trip for us to both bond and compete since it is the only event all year that the entire team travels to," Sligh stated. "The course and hospitality has been amazing and we are looking forward to great competition against Illinois tomorrow. The format promotes teamwork and I'm looking forward to seeing who will step up for us this year.
Illinois State's pairings for the four-ball competition in the morning include: junior Katie Jean and freshman Hayley Guyton, senior Hannah Bachman and sophomore Jordyn Wyzgowski, Carlee Cossell and Brianna Cooper, Rachel Powers and Kaitlin Reid.
