Final Stats
ORANGE PARK, Fla. -
The Illinois State women's golf team concluded play Sunday in the JMU/Eagle Landing Invite, finishing in 18th place. The Redbirds completed the tournament with a combined team score of 939 at the par-72, 6,282 yard Eagle Landing Golf Club.
South Florida held on to its lead built over the previous two rounds to take home the tournament title with a final team score of 883.
Head women's golf coach Darby Sligh expects to use the tournament as a learning tool for her team.
"It was a tough event for us and to finish at the bottom is never easy, but if you have a team that remains uncomfortable in that position it can be a great learning experience," Sligh said. "This squad has always been resilient, and I am looking for that response as we move forward. Hannah Bachman and Brianna Cooper both played solid for us today and that is something we will continue to need as we get closer to conference."
Cooper (76-77-74) paced the Redbirds, posting a combined score of 227 to finish in a tie for 27th. Following her was junior Katie Jean (78-74-82), who ended the invitational with a score of 234. Bachman (80-81-76) carded a 237, while sophomore Jordyn Wyzgowski (78-85-81) completed the competition with a tally of 244. Sophomore Carlee Cossell (85-82-84) finished with a score of 251. Playing individually, sophomore Rachel Powers (81-81-79) posted a three-round score of 241.
Illinois State will return to action March 18, when it will compete in Monterey, Calif., at the Del Monte Invitational at Monterey Bay.
