Illinois State junior Jackie Carmichael was recognized by the National Basketball Coaches Association (NABC) Wednesday and earned All-District 16 First Team honors.
Carmichael, who earned second team All-Missouri Valley Conference honors, is the second Illinois State player in school history to lead the Valley in rebounding with 9.6 boards per contest. In addition to pacing the Redbirds in rebounding, Carmichael also leads ISU in scoring with 13.8 points per game.
The Manhattan, Kan., native also leads the squad in blocked shots with 46. On the season, Carmichael has posted a league-best 13 double-doubles, including a 20-rebound and a 19-rebound effort.
Carmichael and the Redbirds will look to continue their season tonight, as Illinois State faces Ole Miss in the first round of the National Invitation Tournament at C.M. "Tad" Smith Coliseum in Oxford, Miss. The game, which is televised nationally on ESPNU, tips at 8:30 p.m. CDT.
