NORMAL, Ill. – The Illinois State women’s golf team will compete in the 14-team Del Monte Invitational at Monterey Bay in Monterey, Calif., Sunday through Tuesday. The 54-hole tournament, which is co-hosted by Drake and Missouri State, will take place at the par-72 Del Monte Golf Course.
Head women’s golf coach Darby Sligh looks forward to seeing how her team will perform.
“This event is as important as any event we have had this season,” Sligh said. “For the first time this semester, we will get a taste of where we stack up against two very strong Missouri Valley Conference teams in Missouri State and Wichita State. There is a sense of urgency to begin competing at a higher level, and I believe this squad is ready to rise to the occasion. We will need consistently solid rounds from all five to walk away with a chance at a victory.”
Playing for Illinois State will be senior Hannah Bachman, junior Katie Jean and sophomores Brianna Cooper, Rachel Powers and Jordyn Wyzgowski.
Sophomore Carlee Cossell and freshman Hayley Guyton will compete as individuals.
The opening round will begin Sunday with a 10:00 a.m., shotgun start.
