NORMAL, Ill. -
Freshman Emmie Marx leads the Illinois State women's tennis team as the Redbirds head into competition against Marquette. Marx posts a record of 8-5 at No.2 and No.3 positions combined, and recently was named the Missouri Valley Conference's Women's Tennis Athlete of the Week.
"Emmie has been playing very well," said head coach Chris Hoover. "I have faith she is going to continue to play well. She is really hitting her stride and settling into the team. She's starting to feel more comfortable with the other student-athletes and on the courts, and it's starting to show."
ISU heads into play against the Golden Eagles after losing three of their four matches over Spring Break. The most recent Redbird victory came against Chaminade, where the team swept all six singles matches and shut out the Silverswords, 7-0.
"We need to get back playing again," said Hoover. "That's the cure for the struggles we've been having. I'm looking forward to another match before we start conference play. It'll be nice to add another win to our record before facing MVC teams."
The Redbirds hit the courts at 4 p.m. on the courts of the Helfaer Tennis Stadium on Friday, March 23. Live stats will be available for the match against on GoMarquette.com.
