LITTLE ROCK, Ark. – The Illinois State men’s golf team is currently in a tie for fourth place after two rounds in the 16-team UALR/First Tee Collegiate Classic. The Redbirds are tied with Austin Peay after posting a team score of 596 at the par-72, 7,326 yard Chenal Country Club. Southeastern Louisiana leads the field with a score of 583.

Head men’s golf coach Ray Kralis expects his squad to finish strong in the final round.

“Wils Hawn’s start was huge for our team's opening round score as it kept us near the top of the leader board,” Kralis said. “While the effort was there, we missed the low number that we were looking for in the afternoon. We were only a couple of swings away from getting it though, and I was pleased with some of the fight displayed until the finish. We are maturing as a group, and the confidence gained over recent weeks will be a big asset tomorrow as I look for a strong team finish.”

Hawn’s even-par 144 (69-75) puts him in a tie for fourth place overall. Sophomore Parker Freiburg carded a five-over-par 149 (75-74) to place himself in a tie for 14th. With a seven-over-par 151, junior Ricky Hearden (76-75) is in a tie for 31st. Senior Eric Meier is in a tie for 44th after finishing day one with a nine-over-par 153 (76-77). In a tie for 50th, junior Matt Solis posted a 10-over-par score of 154 (78-76).

The final round of the tournament will begin Tuesday with an 8:00 a.m. start.
