LITTLE ROCK, Ark. – The Illinois State men’s golf team finished the 16-team UALR/First Tee Collegiate Classic Tuesday in 12th place after posting a team score of 924. Southeastern Louisiana won the tournament after tallying a score of 887 at the par-72, 7,326 yard Chenal Country Club.

Head men’s golf coach Ray Kralis would have liked to have seen his squad finish stronger, but took positives from the tournament.

“It was a tough day for us, unfortunately,” Kralis said. “This golf course was a test that compounded any mistakes that were made, but I liked the fact that we had put ourselves in a position yesterday to give us a chance today. We got a chance to learn about ourselves while competing at the top of the pack, and although the results today were disappointing, we’re continuing to move forward as a team as we look for consistency over three rounds.”

Sophomore Wils Hawn (69-75-81) led the Redbird effort, finishing in a tie for 15th with a nine-over-par 225. Carding a score of 232, Sophomore Parker Freiburg (75-74-83) finished in a tie for 43rd. Senior Eric Meier (76-77-81) and junior Ricky Hearden (76-75-83) both finished in a tie for 48th with a the score of 234. Junior Matt Solis (78-76-83) finished the tournament with a tally of 237.

Illinois State will return to action April 7-8 when it will compete in the Hoosier Invitational in Bloomington, Ind.
