Illinois State Faces I-74 Rival Bradley

NORMAL, Ill. - In their second home match of the spring season, the Illinois State women's tennis team (6-9) opens play in the Missouri Valley Conference against Interstate 74 rival Bradley on March 30.

In the most recent match-up, Illinois State won in the top two flights; Marx defeated opponent Gillian Hush at No.2 after falling in the first set, 2-6, 6-1, 6-3, and in the first position, senior Aniko Kiss dropped Olga Fischer, 6-3, 6-4. Paired together for No.1 doubles play, Kiss and Marx fell to their singles opponents, 8-4.

"We're looking forward to getting the conference started," said head coach Chirs Hoover. "I know Bradley is going to be a good competitor, and the student-athletes are looking forward to starting the Missouri Valley Conference with a win.'

The Braves (3-11) head into play after downing IUPUI on March 23, 5-2. In the past six years, the Redbirds have won every match, and swept four of the six matches. Rodefeld and Mattson both held their opponents to win three games. At No.1 singles, Rodefeld defeated Danielle Haefele, 6-0, 6-3, and Mattson at No.6 defeated Jesika Bays, 6-1, 6-2.

The match is scheduled to take place at the Gregory Street Tennis courts at 3 p.m., weather permitting. If inclement weather is in the area, the match will be relocated to the Evergreen Racquet Club.
