NORMAL, Ill. - Illinois State junior Kim Genereux was named Midwest Independent Conference Gymnast of the Week by the league office Tuesday for her spectacular performance against Northern Illinois Sunday, March 4.
Genereux placed first in the all-around competition for the fourth consecutive week in a row, with a score of 39.100. Her performance on the floor exercise earned her a first place finish with a career high score of 9.825. Genereux also placed third on vault (9.800) and fifth on the uneven bars (9.775).
It was no surprise to head coach Bob Conkling that Genereux received the award.
"Kim looks great," said Conkling. "Her routines are strong and polished and the judges see that during her performances. With the limited time she is allowed to train due to having such a demanding major (Nursing), it amazing how well she is doing. Her performances really show her dedication to her gymnastics and the team and how efficiently she uses the little time she has to practice. She is very focused and it is paying off. I am very pleased with Kim and her performances over the past few weeks."
The Redbirds will return to action Saturday March 10, to take on conference rival Centenary in Shreveport La. The meet is scheduled to begin at 5 p.m.
