The Illinois State women's tennis (11-11, 5-2 MVC) team kicks off the State Farm Missouri Valley Conference Championships on Friday in the Koch Family Tennis Center in Omaha, Neb. The Redbirds hit the courts at 1 p.m.
ISU is slated in the No.3 position, second to Wichita State (No.1) and Drake (No.2). Wichita State swept the `Birds at home, 7-0, and Drake posted a win of 6-1 over ISU, after team captain Hannah Esker was able to post a victory of Jessica Aguilera in the sixth position, 6-1, 6-2.
MVC play begins with a match up against Creighton, slated at No.6. The Redbirds downed Creighton, 6-1, at home on April 15, with the only loss posted from Carolina Abelllo, who fell, 6-3, 6-3, in the fourth flight.
For seniors Esker and Aniko Kiss, this is the last conference of their Redbird career.
"The conference is bittersweet," said Kiss. "It is exciting to be in the conference but it's sad because it is the last time we'll be competing. I'm looking forward to competition."
