April 26, 2012

RICHMOND, Va. - Illinois State senior left fielder Ty Wiesemeyer has been tabbed as this week's CollegeBaseballInsider.com Player of the Week for the central region. Wiesemeyer was already named the Missouri Valley Conference Player of the Week following his performance last week against Illinois and Bradley.

Wiesemeyer led Illinois State with a .471 batting average, a .824 slugging percentage and a .526 on-base percentage last week in four games. He collected a team-high 10 RBI, with three extra-base hits, including a grand slam, a triple and a double. Wiesemeyer also scored four runs and drew two walks.

The redshirt senior from Troy, Ill., led ISU with a 2-for-4 effort, including a RBI and run scored at Illinois, and he went 2-for-3 Friday versus Bradley. Wiesemeyer was the hero in Saturday's win against the Braves, as he hit a grand slam in the fourth inning to lift the Redbirds to a 12-3 win. In Sunday's season finale, he tripled-home three runs to help ISU gain the early lead.

Wiesemeyer is now batting 6-for-11 with the bases loaded this season, and he leads the team with a .361 average, including a team-best four triples. He is also riding a team-best nine-game hitting streak and a 12-game on-base streak. Wiesemeyer went 1-for-5 in ISU's loss to No. 13 Purdue Tuesday.

Wiesemeyer and the Redbirds (22-15) next travel to Creighton (15-21) for a three-game Missouri Valley Conference series beginning Friday at 6:30 p.m. in Omaha, Neb.
