BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – The Illinois State men’s golf team finished in 13th place Sunday at the 15-school NYX Hoosier Invitational. The Redbirds posted a score of 883 (294-291-298), while Northwestern took home the tournament title with a score of 841 (281-277-283) at the par-71, 6,813 yard Indiana University Golf Course.

Head men’s golf coach Ray Kralis noted that course conditions during the final round made it difficult to move up in the field.

“The winds picked up today, so the course showed some teeth,” Kralis said. “We just didn't get the low score or two that you need to really make a jump up the leader board. You had to be good with your wedges in order to take advantage of birdie opportunities, and the greens were tough enough that you couldn't rely on your putter to save you. We have a couple of weeks before Notre Dame and we need to get those scoring shots dialed in.”

Sophomore Parker Freiburg (70-73-74) led the Illinois State effort, finishing in a tie for 18th after carding a four-over-par 217. He was followed up by sophomore Wils Hawn (74-72-76), who added a nine-over-par 222 to finish in a tie for 43rd. Senior Eric Meier (74-75-74) and junior Matt Solis (76-73-74) both finished tied for 48th, after both shot a 10-over-par 223. Finishing in a tie for 73rd, junior Ricky Hearden (82-73-77) posted a 19-over-par 232.

The Redbirds will return to action on April 22, when they will compete in the Notre Dame hosted Battle at the Warren.
