NORMAL, Ill. -
Illinois State senior Megan Warner was named to the Capital One Academic All-District 5 First Team for her efforts academically and athletically, as announced by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) Thursday afternoon.
Warner, who boasts a 3.82 cumulative grade-point average (GPA) in exercise science, is 9-7 in the circle this season with a 3.99 ERA. The Milan, Ill., native has recorded 47 strikeouts in her 107 innings of work with three shutouts so far this season. The senior righty was one of just Missouri Valley Conference players to be named to the academic all-district team, joining Southern Illinois' Mallory Duran-Sellers. This year's award marks the second academic all-district award for Warner, as she was named to the second team last season.
Warner and the Redbirds will conclude the regular season this weekend when they travel to Cedar Falls, Iowa, for a three-game series with Northern Iowa. ISU will be looking to clinch the No. 2 seed for the State Farm MVC Softball Championships, as UNI clinched the regular-season championship last weekend against Southern Illinois.
