NORMAL, Ill. -
The Illinois State Athletics Department continued to bolster its radio network and pushed the number of affiliates to nine Tuesday with the addition of Rockford's Maverick Media. Redbird football and men's basketball will air live on one of Maverick Media's three stations - WNTA 1330 AM, WNTA 100.5 and WXRX HD-3. The agreement is two years in length.
"We are pleased to add Maverick Media to the Illinois State Sports Network and reconnect with all the alumni and fans in the Rockford area," Illinois State Associate Athletics Director for Athletics Communications Todd Kober said. "Once again, Dennis Lyle from the Illinois Broadcasters Association was instrumental in bringing the two parties together and we would be remised not to show our appreciation. In the early going, it is apparent that J Chapman and his staff at Maverick Media are going to be great partners and we hope to strengthen that relationship."
Maverick Media will carry at least 80 percent of Illinois State football and men's basketball games each season. A final broadcast schedule will be issued at a later date.
"Illinois State is a great educational value and there are many people in the Rockford area that have long-term relationships with the school," said Chapman, the Market Manager of Maverick Media. "ISU has always had exciting athletics programs and we are really happy to provide that connection to the people of Rockford."
Other stations on the Illinois State Sports Network include WJBC-AM 1230 and FM 93.7 in Bloomington (flagship), WVON-AM 1690 in Chicago, WFMB-AM 1450 in Springfield, ESPN Peoria WZPN 96.5, ESPN Decatur 1050 AM, WJEZ-FM 98.9 in Dwight and WYEC 93.9 FM in the Quad Cities. Negotiations with other stations throughout the state are ongoing.
