NORMAL, Ill. - Illinois State junior Parker Freiburg was named the 2012 recipient of the James and Carole Mounier Endowed Scholarship Friday, as announced by head men's golf coach Ray Kralis. The scholarship is awarded annually to a men's golf student-athlete.
Freiburg competed in 17 rounds and held a team season-stroke average of 75.3 during the 2011-12 season. He recorded a season-best two-round score of 148 (76-72) and finished seventh at the UALR/First Tee Classic. The Quincy, Ill., native placed 18th at the MYX Hoosier Invitational with a season-best three round score of 217 (70-73-74).
"Parker started strong, but battled some adversity during the fall with wrist problems, which sidelined him for that segment of the season," Kralis said. "He was disciplined in his rehab and showed the character of a champion by playing his way back into the spring lineup and establishing himself as an impact player for us. His story was one of our highlights because of how he faced his challenges head on and came out stronger while doing things the right way throughout the process."
During the 2010-11 season, Freiburg competed eight rounds and finished with a season-stroke average of 79.3. He posted a career-best, three-round score of 238 (78-84-76) at The Firestone Invitational, finishing 72nd.
The Mounier scholarship was established in 2007 by James and Carole Mounier. Jim and Carole are proud Illinois State graduates who were active in Greek life-Sigma Nu and Delta Zeta. They both enjoy golf and believe the sport builds character and life success.
