Ball State Offense Outlasts Redbirds

MUNCIE, Ind. - Outside hitters Kara Bates and Kylee Baker combined for 24 kills to ignite Ball State (2-1) to a 25-18, 25-15, 17-25, 25-18 win over Illinois State (1-2) in the final match of the Ball State Active Ankle Challenge Saturday night.

Baker posted 14 kills and six digs, recording six of her kills in the second set. The Cardinals had five players tally five or more kills and had three players in double figures for Ball State. Catie Fredrich controlled the defensive efforts with 16 digs and Jacqui Seidel added 40 assists.

Shannon McGlaughlin had 10 kills and five digs for Illinois State, Emily Schneider tallied nine kills with no errors and Stacey Niao and LeighAnn Hranka posted nine kills a piece. Libero Jenny Menendez added a match-high 19 digs and Kaitlyn Early posted 29 assists. Ashley Rosch recorded three blocks to help the Redbirds out block BSU by eight total blocks and earned all-tournament team honors.

The Redbirds will be back in action in Redbird Arena on Aug. 31, against Presbyterian for the first match of the Redbird Classic.
