Redbirds to Take on Truman State

Oct. 17, 2013

NORMAL, Ill. - - The Redbird swimming team will travel to Kirksville, Mo., Friday to face off against the Truman State Bulldogs in the Natatorium at 6 p.m. This marks the second time the two teams have competed head to head in school history.

This is the fourth weekend the Redbirds have consistently competed in their seven-week span of competitions. Head coach Steve Paska is excited to see what this weekend's competition will bring.

"We have been fortunate enough to compete in a variety of meets so far this season, but this will be the will be our first dual meet," said Paska. "The swimmers have competed consistently the last three weeks, but Friday's meet will be the first test to see where they stand in some of their best events and to showcase their talents. Truman State has added talented new freshmen to their team this year, which should make for an even more competitive meet."

The Redbirds competed last weekend in the Dennis Stark Relays against Notre Dame, Auburn, Indiana, Valparaiso and Cleveland State. Illinois State earned fourth place overall at the meet and diver, Wenting Zhang earned the first Missouri Valley Conference Diver of the Week.

The Bulldogs earned sixth place at the Missouri Show-Me Meet last weekend and this will also be their first dual meet of the season.

The Illinois State divers will stay home this weekend to prepare for next week's competition in Omaha, Neb. The Redbirds will match up against Nebraska on Saturday, Oct. 26 at 2 p.m.
