NORMAL, Ill. -
The Illinois State women's golf team will head to Daytona Beach, Fla., to compete in the LPGA Xavier Invitational, its fourth tournament of the season. The competition will be three days of play, beginning Saturday, at the LPGA International Golf Course.
Head Coach Darby Sligh is looking for her team to make a lasting impression as the season begins to wind down.
"We are moving in to the final part of our season so the expectations are rising in terms of what we want to accomplish and what we have learned from past mistakes," Sligh said. "This is a field for us to compete to win, and I believe we are ready for the challenge."
Competing for the Redbirds will be seniors Brianna Copper, Carlee Cossell and Rachel Powers. Junior Hayley Guyton and freshman Maggie Ambrose will round out the lineup.
Illinois State will compete against 17 other teams across all conferences including, Bethune-Cookman, Creighton, Daytona State, Florida Atlantic, Florida Golf Coast, McNeese State, Mercer, Morehead State, North Florida, Northern Kentucky, North Dakota, North Dakota State, Samford, Stetson, South Dakota, South Dakota State, and Xavier.
The first two rounds, Saturday and Sunday, will begin with a shotgun start at 7:30 a.m. (CST), and Monday's final round will begin at 7:15 a.m. (CST) with a shotgun start.
