Redbirds Defeat Conference Rival Southeast Missouri State

CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. - The Illinois State gymnastics team posted a 193.425-192.875 victory over Midwest Independent Conference rival Southeast Missouri State Friday night in Houck Field House.

The Redbirds had a consistent meet this evening. The best event was the uneven bars and as a team the gymnasts scored a 48.850. Jenna Bossle and Sami King tied for second on the event both with a pair of 9.800 scores.

"I'm happy with how the team competed tonight," said head coach Bob Conkling. "It wasn't perfect, but I think they learned how to compete. The gymnasts fought for every tenth of a point they earned."

The balance beam was solid for the gymnastics team tonight. All five scores that counted were above a 9.625. King placed first on beam with the score of 9.825. Teammate Amanda Mohler earned third place with the score of 9.700.

Kim Genereux finished the all-around competition second with a 38.875. Tori Sarantakis and King came in third and fourth respectively in the all-around competition as well. Sarantakis earned a 38.750 and King scored a 38.675.

The Redbirds are back in action Sunday, Feb. 24 where they will take on SEMO at 2 p.m. in historic Horton Field House.
