Senior Associate Athletics Director of Compliance and Student Services, Cindy Harris announced Tuesday that all of the athletic programs at Illinois State have exceeded the NCAA's threshold for Academic Progress Rate (APR). In addition, 15 of ISU's 19 programs finished above the national average, while nine teams achieved perfect 1,000 scores for the 2011-12 data year.
The nine teams who received a perfect score for 2011-12 were baseball, men's golf, women's basketball, women's golf, gymnastics, softball, swimming and diving, and women's outdoor track and field.
"When the NCAA releases the latest APR scores, it's a good day in Redbird Athletics, as we get to shine the spotlight, once again, on the fact that our student-athletes and coaches fully understand that eligibility, retention, and ultimately, graduation are among our top priorities," Harris said. "Balancing academic and athletic commitments is not easy, and the APR scores released today demonstrate that our student-athletes do this extraordinarily well."
The intent of the APR rating is to provide a real-time snapshot of an institution's current academic progress, and takes each scholarship student-athletes' eligibility status, retention and graduation into account on a term-by-term mathematical basis. Teams falling below a calculated APR score of 930 could lose up to 10 percent of their scholarships.
