2013-14 Schedule
NORMAL, Ill. - The Illinois State women's golf team will compete against some of the nation's top teams during the 2013-14 season, as announced by head coach Darby Sligh. During the upcoming season, the Redbirds will participate in five fall tournaments, before jumping into the competitive spring season with six tournaments.
"We have a great mix of events this year that allows us to compete with the best," Sligh said. "A huge highlight of the fall season will be the Golfweek Conference Challenge, where we will be representing the Missouri Valley Conference in Colorado against some of the most prestigious conferences in the country. Above all else, this schedule provides a great balance of opportunities for the student-athletes to experience new places and compete against teams that will push us to be better."
The Redbirds will open the fall schedule, Sept. 8-9, at home with the Redbird Invitational, which will be held at the Weibring Golf Club in Normal, Ill. The next stop for ISU will be on the road at the Cardinal Cup (Sept. 16-17), hosted by Louisville at the Cardinal Club in Simpsonville, Ky. From there, the Redbirds will travel to Wolcott, Colo., to compete in the Golfweek Challenge (Sept. 23-25) hosted by Golfweek at The Red Sky Golf Club.
Illinois State will open October with the LPGA Xavier Invitational (Oct. 5-7), which will be held at the LPGA International Golf Club in Daytona Beach, Fla. ISU will finish up its fall schedule at the Hoosier Fall Invitational (Oct.19-20) hosted by Indiana at the Hickory Sticky Golf Club in Greenwood, Ind.
After a three month break from competition, the spring schedule will begin with a familiar rival, as the Redbirds will head south to compete in the Illinois Challenge (Feb. 2) with Illinois at Venice Golf and Country Club in Venice, Fla. ISU will return to Florida for the second time to participate in the Amelia Island Collegiate Tournament (Feb.17-18) hosted by Jacksonville in Amelia Island, Fla. Then, ISU will continue this trend of warm climates, as it competes in the Rio Verde Collegiate Invitational (March 7-9) hosted by Western Michigan at the Quail Run Golf Club in Rio Verde, Ariz.
The Redbirds will have a one week turn around as ISU competes in the Pinehurst Challenge (March 16-17) hosted by College of Charleston at the Pinehurst Resort in Pinehurst, N.C. Illinois State will then head to the Missouri Valley Conference Championship (April 20-22), as ISU looks to grab its sixth title in seven years at the Panther Creek Golf Club in Springfield, Ill.
