Sept. 14, 2013

Weibring Intercollegiate Program

NORMAL, Ill. - The Illinois State men's golf team will open the 2013-14 season by hosting the D.A. Weibring Intercollegiate at the Weibring Golf Club. The intercollegiate will be a three-round tournament with two rounds Sunday (36 holes) and the final round Monday (18 holes). Both days will have an 8:30 a.m., shotgun start for the par-71 course.

Head coach Ray Kralis is looking forward to starting the fall season with momentum from the spring season, as well as a home course advantage.

"We have a solid nucleus returning from last year, so while we are just getting underway, I feel like we have momentum built from last spring and expect a strong performance at home to kick off our season," Kralis said. "We have to balance the hype and expectations that come with playing at home and stay focused on the process versus the outcome, but I am confident we will do that."

Illinois State will host 14 teams, including Arkansas-Little Rock, Arkansas State, Bradley, Butler, Evansville, Illinois Wesleyan, Loyola, Missouri State, Northern Iowa, Oral Roberts, Purdue, Southern Illinois, SIU-Edwardsville and Western Illinois.

The Redbirds competing this weekend include seniors Parker Freiburg and Wils Hawn, junior Jordan Fahel, sophomore Tyler Gentilella and freshman Kyle Meihofer. Junior Josh Edison, sophomore Tyler Pope-Ferguson, along with freshman Turner Reidwill be competing as individuals during the intercollegiate.

Illinois State finished in third place at the 2012 Weibring Intercollegiate with a team score of 893.
