Conference Play Resumes, Redbirds Host Sycamores

NORMAL, Ill. - Returning to the safe confines of Redbird Arena, the Illinois State volleyball team (9-4, 2-0) will host the Indiana State Sycamores (7-6, 1-1) for the third conference match of the season Friday. The Redbirds are currently led by Ashley Rosch with 139 kills and 112 digs, as well as Stacey Niao who has collected 121 kills and 141 digs.

The Redbirds are coming off a non-conference mid-week match against Marquette Wednesday, in which ISU nearly pulled off a huge comeback, eventually falling in the fifth-set. Senior LeighAnn Hranka led the Redbirds in the match with 15 kills and 16 digs. The weekend before, ISU swept both Evansville and Southern Illinois in straight-sets to begin Missouri Valley Conference (MVC) play.

The Indiana State volleyball team is coming off a win Tuesday over Chicago State, in which Morgan Dall collected 21 kills while leading the Sycamores to a 3-1 victory. Dall, one of the offensive leaders in the MVC, has amassed 230 kills on the season, while helping the Sycamores to one victory in two conference matches to this point on the season. The Sycamores defeated Evansville in a straight-set sweep, while falling to Southern Illinois, 3-0.

Last season, the Redbirds went 2-0 against the Sycamores, sweeping them in both matches. The last time the Indiana State volleyball team defeated the Redbirds was Nov. 12, 2011, in which the Sycamores collected a straight-set sweep victory over Illinois State.
